Journal Journey

This week for our journals we will be going on a field trip! Welcome to our trip to New York City where we will be visiting the Museum of Modern Art. Visit the museum online! Notice on how with each painting or sculpure the different activities go along with each of your senses. Good writers use these sense in their writing to help paint the best picture for the reader.

Visit MoMA

Pick one of the paintings or sculptures and find an example of how a different sense was used to view the art work. Share the art work you selected, which sense was effected, and describe your experience!

Tuesday - art imitates life

Travel today outside of New York and outside of this time period. Today, look at the art work in MoMA in a different way. The fine arts are a reflection of what is going on in life. Art and music can be linked back to political struggles and the feelings of the people or person at any given time during our history. Pick one of the artists from the website. Click on his or her picture and read about what country and year that the person was born. Research the historical events effecting the world or the country that the person is from. Make a connection on how his or her art work can be connected to the events taking place at the artist's time.

Wednesday - what kind of artist are you?

In the MoMA website there have been many different medium of art. We saw film, paper, paint, recycled materials, bronze, foam, and many different formats. They all have in common that something was created.

What is your creative outlet? What kind of an artist are you? Pick a medium be it dirt, music, paint or whatever and explain how it is your creative side or your outlet. Don't forget to incorporate your senses and feelings in your writing to convey what you would like us to understand.

Thursday - Connections

Different forms of art and different pieces can speak to a person. I enjoyed the movie Bridgehampton because of the images and the music. It reminded my of my childhood and some of my favorite memories. I loved the holidays and the Charlie Brown movies that always were on tv. I loved the timeless music and the combination of ink and water colors that were the creations of Charles Schulz, the creator of the Peanuts series. What enhanced these cartoons was the accompying music, escpecially from the creator Vince Guaraldi.

What kinds of connections did you experience while taking our virtual field trip to MoMA? Which pieces did you find the most interesting?

Friday - coming back home

Did you visit PS 1 at the end of the museum? If not go check it out and come back to this blog. Could you imagine coming back to school and it also being an art center? WOW, what amazing things could take place. Now that we are back to school what would you want to change? Would you want to have a school focused around music? Use your senses to help describe your ideal school.

Sharing with others

Sharing with others. We have had a fun time with learning about different artists, how if effects us and what may effect an artist and his or her creations. Mr. Loy, our art teacher, has been working with you on the different mediums that were presented on the MoMA visit. You have also have been studying current events with your homeroom teacher.

It is now for you to choose a medium in art and to express yourself. Create a piece to share with others. Include with it a short explination and what effected you to create it. What is your connection to the piece you created.
